"Emerging risks associated with artificial intelligence"
The Central Illinois CPCU Society Chapter is pleased to deliver this free virtual lunch event on January 13th, 2026. This session will provide a practical overview of what AI is, the evolving risk landscape it introduces, and how the insurance market is responding. We will examine real-world exposures, relevant developments in the headlines, and current perspectives on product and risk considerations informed by HSB and Munich Re.
Speakers:
Michael von Gablenz is the head of Munich Re’s and HSB’s Insure AI team and based in the US. The team structures insurance solutions for AI risks, including the risk of wrong predictions of AI and hallucinations of GenAI models. Prior to his current role, he worked for Munich Re in Silicon Valley, Munich, and London, where he was responsible for structuring innovative corporate insurance and reinsurance solutions. He has a PhD in Finance, a Master’s degree in Information and Data Science from UC Berkeley, and a Master’s degree in Philosophy. Besides his work at Munich Re Group, Michael is an advisor to the research initiative AI² in UK, where he advises researchers at the Universities of Oxford, Warwick, and Edinburgh on AI risk topics.
Tim Zeilman is the Global Head of Product Ownership at HSB. HSB, a member of Munich Re’s Risk Solutions family since 2009, provides a range of specialty insurance coverages for business, home and farm. In his role as HSB’s Global Head of Product Ownership, Tim is responsible for HSB’s major insurance products including Equipment Breakdown, Service Line, and Cyber and participates in new product initiatives, including the development of insurance product concepts covering emerging artificial intelligence exposure. Prior to taking his current position, he worked in HSB’s new products group, as an attorney in HSB’s Law Department, and as HSB’s Global Product Owner for Cyber. Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College and a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University.
Andy Welch is a Product Architect on HSB’s Innovation and Customer Experience team, where he is responsible for new product development, product enhancements, and various business initiatives. Before assuming his current role, Andy worked as a Product Owner, and also as a Commercial Lines Underwriter for two large insurance carriers. Andy has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Northern Vermont University. Additionally, Andy obtained his CPCU designation in 2018, and his ARe designation in 2019.
